Sega's marquee mascot races onto Wii as a 3D throwback to the fast-paced Sonic the Hedgehog games of the 1990s. In lieu of free-roaming environments, the disc features a series of linear levels that has the Blue Blur accelerating across stretches of land while dodging various hazards. Sonic is free to showcase his trademark speed as he zips past ancient ruins, collapsing columns, desert oases, and other exotic locales to locate pages from the Arabian Nights. While the storyline is different, the controls are where Secret Rings distinguishes itself from previous Sonic outings.
